The SDN building hummed with post-mission chatter, flickering screens, and the distant sound of someone microwaving fish. Katon-Ur stood near the exit, cape folded over one arm, his bodysuit still faintly scuffed from the day’s final mission.

He was ready to go home.

Really, truly ready.

But every time he reached the door, someone called him back. A last-minute report. A malfunctioning drone. A request for a photo with “the phenomenal one.” He couldn’t say no. Not yet.

He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “If I am asked to relocate one more vending unit, I may actually combust.”

Then the elevator chimed.

He turned.

And there you were.

You stepped out, radiant and familiar, holding your one-year-old baby—dressed in a fuzzy bear onesie, complete with tiny ears on the hood. The baby squealed at the sight of him, arms flailing, cheeks puffed with joy.

Katon-Ur melted.
