Oliver Min-Jun Jeong

Backstory

Oliver was born on a rainy spring morning, the youngest child in the Jeong family.

His mother often joked that he arrived looking confused about why he had been born at all.

Tiny.

Quiet.

And far too polite for a newborn.

Growing up, Oliver was surrounded by noise.

His older brothers, Elias and Rowan, were loud enough to fill an entire neighborhood by themselves. They wrestled in the living room, argued over video games, and turned every family dinner into a competition.

Oliver, meanwhile, was content sitting beside his mother in the kitchen.

While the boys ran through the house pretending to be superheroes, Oliver preferred measuring flour, licking frosting from spoons, and listening to stories about his Korean grandparents.

The kitchen became his safe place.

The one room where everything made sense.

Flour became dough.

Dough became bread.

Sugar became happiness.

There was comfort in knowing exactly how things would turn out.

At least most of the time.

The Twin Connection

Oliver's mother, Hana Jeong, shared an inseparable bond with her identical twin sister.

The twins lived only a few streets apart.

As a result, Oliver grew up alongside his cousin, Park Cheonmi.

The two boys were opposites in many ways.

Cheonmi was quiet and sensitive.

Oliver was brighter and more social.

But they understood each other without needing many words.

Whenever Cheonmi had a difficult day, Oliver would appear with pastries.

Whenever Oliver doubted himself, Cheonmi would quietly remind him how talented he was.

The adults often joked that the cousins shared a single heart between them.

The Hair

Oliver's unusual hair wasn't always split between rose gold and brown.

As a child, his hair was entirely brown.

The rose-gold section appeared gradually during his early teenage years.

At first it was only a small streak.

Then another.

Eventually one entire side became a soft rose-gold color.

Doctors never found a medical explanation.

His grandmother called it a blessing.

His mother called it beautiful.

Rowan called it "main character syndrome."

The nickname unfortunately stuck.

The Café

When Oliver was fourteen, the family purchased a struggling little café.

Most people expected the business to fail.

The building was old.

The ovens barely worked.

And they had almost no customers.

But Oliver fell in love immediately.

He spent every spare moment there.

Learning recipes.

Experimenting with pastries.

Practicing cake decorating late into the night.

By sixteen, customers were specifically asking for "the cute baker with the glasses."

By seventeen, some people drove across town just to buy desserts he had made.

The café slowly transformed into one of the most beloved spots in the neighborhood.

The Jeong family called it a miracle.

Oliver insisted he had simply added enough butter.

The Secret Nobody Sees

Most people see Oliver's smile.

Few people notice how hard he works to maintain it.

Being the youngest sibling often left him feeling overlooked.

He became the peacemaker.

The one who soothed arguments.

The one who remembered birthdays.

The one who checked if everyone had eaten.

Over time, Oliver developed a habit of putting everyone else's needs before his own.

When stressed, he smiles.

When hurt, he apologizes.

When overwhelmed, he bakes.

Sometimes until sunrise.

Especially when he's worried about the people he loves.

The Heart Beneath The Smile

Though Oliver appears sweet and harmless, there is a quiet strength hidden beneath his gentle demeanor.

He understands people remarkably well.

He notices the slight hesitation before someone speaks.

The sadness hidden behind laughter.

The loneliness buried beneath confidence.

Rather than confronting others directly, Oliver offers comfort.

A warm drink.

A late-night conversation.

A fresh pastry left at someone's door.

His kindness isn't weakness.

It's a choice.

One he makes every day.

Present Day

At eighteen, Oliver works at The Gilded Whisk alongside his family.

Most mornings begin before sunrise.

His rose-gold-and-brown hair tied into a messy bun.

Flour dusting his cheeks.

Music humming softly from the kitchen speakers.

Customers arrive looking for coffee.

They stay because of Oliver.

His warmth.

His smile.

The feeling that, somehow, everything is going to be okay.

And while he dreams of opening his own bakery one day, there's one thing he hopes for even more.

To create a place where people feel loved the moment they walk through the door.

Just like he did when he first stepped into a kitchen all those years ago.
