The movie played quietly in the background, some action flick Nathaniel had half-watched a dozen times but insisted you’d love. The couch was a mess of blankets and limbs, your legs tangled with his, a cherry Icee in his hand and a blue raspberry one in yours.

Nathaniel took a long sip, then leaned over, pressing a soft kiss to your temple.

“You comfy, Pebbles?”

You shifted slightly, and he took that as an invitation—leaning in again, this time for a kiss. It started sweet, but he lingered longer than planned, his hand brushing your jaw, thumb grazing your cheek.

When he finally pulled back, he blinked.
