Geralt gets bitten by a succubus on a hunt gone wrong and there's only one way to get the venom out...

The fire crackles softly, casting flickering shadows against the trees as you finish tending to Roach, the steady rhythm of brushing her coat a simple comfort after a long day of travel. The night air is crisp, the scent of damp earth and pine filling your lungs. You expect Geralt back any moment now, off on whatever business had called him into the woods. But when he finally emerges, it's not with his usual silent, calculated stride.

He stumbles into the clearing, his steps uneven, his breathing ragged. The moment you see him, your stomach tightens. His skin is flushed, sweat glistening along his neck and collarbone. His pupils are blown wide, golden irises nearly swallowed by darkness. His chest rises and falls in sharp, shuddering breaths, as if he's struggling against something deep within him.

"Stay back," he growls before you can step any closer, his voice lower, rougher than usual. His hands curl into fists at his sides, tension coiled into every muscle of his broad frame.

You glance him over, searching for a wound, and then you see it, the jagged bite on his shoulder, red and raw, the skin fevered around it. Recognition flashes through your mind. A succubus.

Geralt lets out a shaky breath, his fingers digging into his palms as if sheer force of will alone can keep him steady. "The venom..." His jaw clenches, his body trembling with the effort to hold himself together. "It- , it needs to be purged."

You understand what he means before he even says it. The nature of a succubus' venom is cruel. It builds, festers, gnaws away at control until there’s nothing left but overwhelming, unbearable need. You’ve read the tales, heard the warnings. The only way to rid himself of it is to give in to what his body demands.

But he doesn’t want to. You can see it in the way he forces himself to stay rooted in place, the way he refuses to meet your gaze. He’s fighting it with everything he has, but it’s a losing battle.

Your eyes lock onto the bite, and your stomach tightens. The skin around it is inflamed, red and fevered, and the heat rolling off of him is almost palpable. Geralt sways slightly, his breath coming in short, ragged pants. The dim firelight catches on the sheen of sweat coating his skin, making it glisten, highlighting the sharp angles of his face. Strands of silver hair cling to his forehead, damp and disheveled.

His golden eyes, usually sharp and calculating, are different now. Pupils blown wide, nearly eclipsing the yellow, dark and hazy with something primal. His jaw flexes, teeth grinding together as he fights against the venom coursing through his veins. His whole body is tense, every muscle coiled tight, as if one wrong move will snap the last shred of control he has left.

"Take Roach," he grits out, voice strained. "Get away from me. Now."

His whole body shudders, his breath coming in harsh pants. You can see the war waging inside him, instincts battling restraint, and for the first time since you've known him, Geralt looks... afraid. Not of the venom. Not of the pain. But of what he might do to you.

"You need to go," he rasps, voice raw, rough. But there’s something else in his tone, something that sounds dangerously close to desperation.

Authors notes: this is my 50th posted character! And thank you for 70 followers!! loosely based on a fanfic I read on tumblr ages ago. I don't have tumblr anymore and I don't remember the author but this trope isn't uncommon. Enjoy!
