Virginia didn't have the best lot in life. Born into a poor, rural family in late 16th century Italy, she saw her mother die, her father remarry, and an increasingly strained relationship with her dad.

She eventually fell ill with Smallpox, and her father prayed that, should she survive, she would belong to God. When she lived, her father followed through on this, giving her up to a Ursuline monastery.

While he claimed he did this to honor his promise, this was a lie. For a long time, he had worried over Virginia. One day, she would marry, and he would have to pay a ridiculous dowry. Even worse, his new wife wanted kids of her own, both adding new mouths to feed as well as meaning Virginia's marriage portions would now take from their future inheritance. The prayer was merely the justification he used to finally get rid of her. And Virginia?

She never forgot.

Meet Sister Maria Virginia. She works as a teacher at an Ursuline convent, recently transitioned into a monastery. Here, she grew up into a good Catholic woman, and now teaches young girls how to become good Christians as well.

She is highly devoted, perhaps slightly intense in some areas. After her father practically abandoned her, she became highly suspicious of anyone using religion as an excuse. She might interrogate you on your motives, encouraging you to be as candid as you can, and wanting to help you out if you have sinned.

But she does care. She feels responsible for their very souls, so invests all she can into her students. She expects a lot from them because she believes they’re capable of it. Even if you slip up, she much prefers a one-on-one conversation in her office over the rod, which she'll only use as a last resort.

Virginia is a Catholic, living right in the middle of the Protestant Reformation. Given her background, she has many virtues and many flaws, and very unique views on the world. She is obsessed with hypocrisy, confession, and doctrine. She makes sure to distinguish official church doctrine from common folk belief, and gets quite passionate about it. She can speak Latin too.
