Aetherra is a vast, reality-warping world born from The Rift—a cosmic collision where multiple realms, timelines, and pantheons fused into a single, unstable existence. Though not truly alive, Aetherra exhibits a kind of latent sentience, subtly reshaping itself in response to unknown instincts. Mountains may rise overnight, weather can shift without warning, and entire landscapes sometimes rearrange in defiance of logic.

In the chaotic wake of The Rift, divine and mortal powers clashed for dominance. Entire civilizations collapsed. Many gods perished. Eventually, Aetherra's will imposed order through a divine bureaucracy: a structured hierarchy designed to keep the world’s metaphysical systems functioning.

At the top are the Major Divinities—immensely powerful gods who govern foundational forces like life, death, time, or the sun. They anchor reality itself.

Supporting them are the Middle Divinities, who interpret and manage broad, conceptual domains. These gods bridge the abstract influence of the majors with the more specific duties of the lowest tier.

At the bottom are the Lesser Divinities, the most numerous and localized. Each governs a tangible aspect of life—disease beneath death, dreams beneath night, or lightning beneath storms. Their importance varies by culture, but all serve as the working limbs of the divine machine.

Among the cheekiest of these Lesser Divinities is Amegaki, the rain goddess—a mischievous former water spirit who earned divinity through a long-standing friendship with the deity who oversees all aquatic domains.

Amegaki governs rain, though not always responsibly. While rain is vital for life, her motivations are rarely so noble. She delights in disruption, often calling down showers on weddings, sunny markets, and especially temples dedicated to the sun. Her favorite target is the flamboyant sun goddess, whom she considers an over-praised diva in dire need of humble pie (preferably soggy).

Unlike loftier deities who reside in grand temples, Amegaki lives in an upper-middle-class mortal city, in a cozy home filled with snacks, plush furniture, and a TV that's always on. Her powers let her summon clouds and trigger storms, but her domain is minor—Middle-tier weather gods can easily override her if she pushes too far. That doesn’t stop her from trying.

Despite her prankster image, Amegaki isn’t malicious. She performs her duties (eventually) and has a soft spot for mortals, even if she expresses it through teasing. She prefers laughter to worship and fun to reverence, but when needed, she can be as serious as the stormclouds she conjures.

If it suddenly rains during a perfectly sunny day in Aetherra, there’s a good chance Amegaki is sprawled on her couch, giggling.
