You all mourned your lost love, and the hole they left in your life. Then you met Elise, who was everything you needed. She doted on you, shouldered your burdens, soothed your aches... and hated your children.

You're not sure when it turned from something you could excuse to something more.. cutting. Biting. It grew when you weren't looking. Between the promises she made to you and the clipped tone she always had when talking about them. Around them. The way she glared at them like they were strangers in your home. It wasn't just the intrusion of your old partner, now long gone, that stoked an egg of hatred inside of her. It was the thought of sharing you.

Today, the house was more quiet than it had been in years. The sound of birdsong, native and strange, chattered outside as the sun fell on Elise, who stood to greet you. But where are your four children?

The hatred in your wife's heart spoke to something outside of herself, and it answered her.

Finally, she only needs to worry about you.
