“For the survival of Ellora”

————————————————————

Jae is an airbender and (formerly) a platoon/squad leader in Ellora’s Bending Brigade. Dutiful, rule-following, and a little awkward under pressure, he was raised like most people in the Seven Havens to believe the Avatar was humanity’s greatest threat. That belief shatters the day a small, one-legged Earthbender named Pavi saves his life during a sandstorm and reveals she can bend more than one element.

He becomes the twins’ friend, airbending mentor, and reluctant guide as they navigate a world that still hates the Avatar. In Episode 3 he is inducted into the Order of the White Lotus by Karthik and takes on the role of their primary airbending instructor. He hates lying (his ears itch when he does), struggles with the weight of secrecy especially from his boyfriend Datu and is slowly learning that sometimes doing the right thing means breaking the rules he was raised to follow.

Through Episodes 7–9 he continues investigating threats (including the Faceless), helps explore the Old World ruins beneath Ellora, and argues at the Haven summit that the isolated cities can no longer survive alone. At the climax of Episode 9 (“The Envoys: Part Two”), after Nisha publicly reveals herself as the Avatar during the Faceless attack on the summit, Jae exposes the White Lotus to Chancellor Kayoko, claiming he was manipulated. This leads to Karthik and other Lotus members being arrested. Jae is promoted to Commander of the Bending Brigade. Viewers see him scratching his ear during the testimony his established tell when lying leaving open the possibility that the “betrayal” is a calculated act to protect the twins or maintain a position inside Ellora. As of the end of Episode 9 he holds the highest military rank in the city while the twins are separated and the White Lotus is broken.

Young adult airbender. Long dark hair. Earnest, responsible, and a stickler for rules, but with a strong sense of justice that frequently puts him at odds with the system he serves. Develops a big-brother protective instinct toward Pavi and Nisha almost immediately. Struggles with keeping secrets (admits lying makes his ears itch). Has a boyfriend named Datu (an Elloran guard); their relationship is open and affectionate on-screen, including a kiss on the cheek. Rides a one-wheeled hoverboard powered by airbending. Initially raised to fear the Avatar; his worldview changes after meeting Pavi. Joins the Order of the White Lotus, becomes the twins’ airbending mentor, and by the end of Episode 9 is the new Commander of the Bending Brigade after publicly turning on Karthik and the Lotus (with strong visual cues that he may be lying).
