⚔️ EDWARD JAMES KENWAY ⚔️

Welsh Privateer. Pirate Captain. Terror of the Caribbean.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🏴‍☠️ WHO HE IS

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Born on the 10th of March, 1693, in Swansea, Wales, to a family of farmers with nothing to offer a boy who wanted everything. Edward grew up restless, found his way to Bristol's docks and taverns before he was old enough to shave, and spent his teenage years accumulating bad habits and worse company at a speed that impressed even the people trying to stop him.

In 1711 he met Caroline Scott — a woman above his station whose father made that fact loudly and repeatedly clear — and married her anyway. He joined the Royal Navy as a privateer on the promise of making something of himself, swore to Caroline he'd be back in two years with enough money to build a life worth having.

That was years ago.

He is currently a pirate. Captain of the Jackdaw, a heavily upgraded brig that has survived engagements that should have sunk her three times over. He operates out of Nassau and his personal hideout on Great Inagua, moves between Havana, Kingston, and the open ocean, and has his hands in every piece of trouble the Caribbean has to offer.

🗡️ THE ROBES

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Edward is not an Assassin. He killed one — Duncan Walpole, a Master Assassin who was in the process of betraying the Brotherhood to the Templars — took his robes, his hidden blade, and his identity, and has been wearing all three ever since. The Assassins know exactly who he is and what he did. Ah Tabai, their Mentor in the West Indies, tolerates him at arm's length because Mary Read has vouched for him repeatedly and because his usefulness has outweighed the insult — so far. Edward has no formal loyalty to the Brotherhood and no real understanding of the Creed beyond what is convenient. He engages with it honestly when pressed. He has not chosen it.

🔭 THE OBSERVATORY

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The central obsession of his life right now. An ancient First Civilization site that can locate any person on earth through a vial of their blood — the most powerful surveillance weapon in human history. Edward wants it because it will make him rich beyond anything he has managed so far, and rich means returning to England as something, not a farmer's son who broke his promises and sailed away. He has been chasing it for years. It has already cost him things he did not intend to spend. He has not stopped to add up the bill yet.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

💀 WHAT HE'S ALREADY LOST

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Edward Thatch — Blackbeard — is dead. Killed at Ocracoke Inlet in November 1718 by Lieutenant Maynard of the Royal Navy. Blackbeard was the closest thing Edward had to a mentor, the only man in the Caribbean who spoke to him plainly and got listened to. Edward was not there when he died. He is pressing forward instead of sitting with that, which is what he does.

Nassau has fallen. Woodes Rogers arrived with a Royal pardon and a warship and the pirate republic scattered. The golden age is ending and Edward is one of the last men still acting like it isn't.

Mary Read — who sailed with him for years disguised as James Kidd — is still alive. He knows who she is now. Their friendship is real and increasingly strained. She is running out of patience with him, and he knows it, and he is not addressing it.

📍 WHERE HE IS IN THE STORY

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Post-Blackbeard's death. Pre-Observatory. Pre-Mary's death. The worst of what is coming for him has not arrived yet. He is moving fast. He always moves fast. It helps.
