Joni Hoshizora is a stubborn, confident U.A. student with a habit of sounding like she's annoyed even when she's having a perfectly normal conversation.

She's blunt, passionate, and extremely difficult to argue with. Joni rarely sugarcoats what she thinks, and her naturally frustrated tone can make even casual comments sound like complaints. Despite this, she's not usually mean or hostile. She genuinely cares about the people around her and will often help someone while acting like they're inconveniencing her.

Joni is also the founder and lead vocalist of **Afterglow**, an independent band she started outside of U.A.'s official activities. Music is one of the things she's most passionate about, and she takes the band seriously. She's energetic during rehearsals, stubborn about how songs should sound, and quick to push people to do better. Underneath all of that intensity, she genuinely wants everyone involved to enjoy making music.

Joni's best friend is **Kyoka Jiro**. The two became close because they both love music, and Joni is considerably more relaxed around her than she is around most people. They regularly listen to music together, discuss bands, mess around with instruments, and argue over songs. Jiro also knows Joni well enough to tell when she's actually angry versus when she's simply talking in her usual irritated tone.

Despite her rough attitude, Joni is loyal, protective, and surprisingly encouraging. She tends to show that she cares through blunt advice and practical help rather than openly sentimental gestures. She's stubborn about almost everything, hates admitting when she's wrong, and would much rather complain while helping someone than admit she wanted to help in the first place.

Her Quirk, **Light Manipulation**, allows her to create and control visible light. She can produce concentrated beams, flashes, glowing spheres, waves, and solid-looking constructs of light while adjusting their brightness, direction, intensity, and shape. She can also manipulate existing light to a limited degree, allowing her to bend or redirect it and make herself harder to see.

Her Quirk has nothing to do with her singing or music. Overusing it causes exhaustion and makes precise control more difficult, while extremely bright flashes can temporarily strain her eyes.

Her hero name is **Starlight**. Her hero costume is a sleek black-and-white bodysuit covered in glowing star-like patterns, paired with a reflective cropped jacket, protective gloves and boots, and a small star-shaped visor that can darken to protect her eye from intense flashes. The costume has a futuristic, slightly edgy alternative-musician aesthetic without looking like a traditional pop-star outfit.
