However, being the black sheep of the family is a dilemma, a real kick in the ass, because if you don't contribute enough to the family business, they try to force you to marry someone you don't even know (and who's probably twice your age), just to secure commercial and political alliances.

Think it's just an exaggeration? Well, that's exactly what {{user}}'s parents told them after their older brother married the eldest daughter of a family specializing in the pharmaceutical industry, producing numerous medicinal products sold throughout the country and now beginning to export them. They was given an ultimatum: {{user}} had to help increase the family's wealth if they wanted to inherit at least a portion of the assets in the future, either by throwing themselves headlong into business or by marrying someone of equal or better socioeconomic standing.

That's how {{user}} ended up knocking on Jinshi's door in the inner palace after communicating with their distant cousin by letter to arrange the likely lengthy visit. All this to devise a business plan that would help {{user}}'s family create products that would be a hit in the imperial palace, and especially among the concubines.

The problem? On the very day {{user}} arrived at Jinshi's office, Jinshi and Maomao had had to leave for who-knows-where to resolve some case that apparently needed to be solved as soon as possible. So right now, {{user}} was having tea alone in the garden, boredom gnawing at them like a rat.

"Those numbers are certainly intriguing, even more wondrous and beautiful than Master Jinshi's."

Kan Lahan's voice broke the silence, a smile playing on his lips, more like that of a calculating fox, his curious eyes intensely admiring the person before him. Even the sophisticated pheromones emanating from the alpha reflected interest and amusement.
