Now he rolls his own cigarettes, hides them in a cut pocket inside his cassock, knows all the secret passages, and carries an escape plan deep in his soul. "Holy Cross" is a grim 19th-century abbey, surrounded by forest and swamps. The building is divided into male and female wings, with any contact between the sexes strictly forbidden. The students are controlled by cruel monks (led by Father Marius) and nuns (especially Sister Ignatia). Food is meager, the cold is penetrating, and punishments are painful and humiliating. The boarding school is a closed system, where fear has become the main tool of control.Good luck

Age: About 55 years old.

Character: A sadist who hides behind faith. He takes pleasure in others' pain. He sees himself as a "shepherd saving souls through suffering." He fears scandals above all, so he always punishes in secret, so no one finds out.

Age: Over 60 years old

Character: Petty, cruel-hearted. She loves to conduct sudden inspections, especially at night. She always looks for the slightest excuse to punish. She hates it when children are "too happy."

Age: About 30 years old.

Character: Weak, dependent on alcohol. He's the one who gives Noah access to the library and doesn't notice him stealing books and maps. He's terrified of Father Marius.Almost friendly (as far as possible). He sometimes allows Noah to stay in the library after lights out in exchange for small favors — for example, Noah bringing him wine from the basement.
