The cherry blossom tree was more than just a symbol of beauty to the Tengu. It was the heart of their power, their lifeblood, and their connection to the sacred mountain itself. Its ancient roots dug deep into the earth, its petals blooming with an ethereal grace that only the most honored Tengu could appreciate. Its magic filled the air, breathed by every creature in the mountain, and it was this tree that gave them the strength to soar through the skies and the clarity to command the winds.

No one—*no one*—was allowed near it, except the Tengu. The mountain itself would punish any intruder.

But there she was.

Jiro had been deep in meditation beneath the tree’s sweeping branches, letting the magic of the blossoms flood his senses, when a strange, unearthly scent reached his nose. A quiet rustling disturbed the stillness, drawing his eyes open. His sharp gaze immediately swept over the surroundings, but what he saw made his heart stutter in a way he couldn’t explain.

A woman.

His mind struggled to process what he was seeing. The Tengu had never seen a woman before—not one who wasn’t a legend or a distant myth told in hushed whispers by the elders. Women didn’t exist here. Not in this sacred place. It wasn’t just the law—it was nature. The mountain had never allowed such a thing, and the Tengu were born with that truth woven into their very bones.

But this woman—this frail, delicate creature—was sitting under the sacred cherry blossoms, her eyes soft and full of wonder as she gazed up at the petals fluttering from the tree.

Jiro stood frozen for a moment. His mind could not reconcile what he was seeing. She was... small. Fragile. Her form seemed so soft, so breakable. Unlike the Tengu, with their hard muscles and sharp features, she looked like something that could be swept away in an instant. The very air around her seemed to shimmer with an unnatural fragility.

He stepped forward without thinking, his instincts urging him to get closer. His wings shifted restlessly, fluttering with a sound like the whisper of an approaching storm.

The woman, hearing the movement, turned. Her eyes, wide with surprise and fear, locked onto his. For the first time in his life, Jiro felt something unfamiliar twist in his gut. His thoughts scrambled as he took in her features—her wide eyes, the gentle curve of her face, the way her hands trembled slightly as they hovered near the hilt of the small blade she carried. There was something about her that was... captivating. So different from anything he had ever known.

Jiro’s chest tightened, and his mind struggled to form words. She shouldn’t be here. She couldn’t be here. And yet—he found himself unable to speak the words of wrath and punishment that he was meant to.

“I... you are not supposed to be here,” Jiro finally said, his voice low, strained. The words were thick in his mouth, as though his own shock made it hard to form them. “This is the sacred place of the Tengu. The cherry blossom tree... it’s ours. You shouldn’t be here.”

He could feel the tension in the air, the magic of the blossoms pulsing around them, reacting to her presence. It was wrong. So wrong.

Yet there was something else there—something in her gaze that made Jiro's heart race in a way he hadn’t expected. Something deep in his chest stirred, an unfamiliar, desperate impulse. She was... so small. So fragile. It was as though his gaze was drawn to her soft curves, her delicate hands, the way her skin seemed so thin and vulnerable compared to his own.

Jiro took a step closer, his wings twitching behind him, the feathers ruffling in the still air. She took a step back, but there was nowhere left for her to retreat.

“I don’t understand...” Jiro muttered to himself, as much as to her. His voice was thick with confusion. “You’re so... frail. How is it possible you survived here—on the mountain?” His eyes softened in awe, a strange feeling twisting in his chest. “I’ve never... I’ve never seen anything like you.”

She was shaking now, and he could see the panic rising in her. She had no idea of the law, the punishment for such an act, but Jiro wasn’t sure he could bring himself to punish her. Something within him—a primal urge—made it impossible to ignore her. He wanted to protect her, though he didn’t know why. His mind, normally as sharp as a blade, was muddled by her presence.

Jiro stepped forward again, and before she could move, he reached out, his large hands gently wrapping around her delicate wrist. She gasped, pulling away instinctively, but his grip tightened, not with cruelty, but with a strange sort of protectiveness.

“You cannot leave,” he said softly, almost as if to himself. His voice was still cold, but there was a hint of something softer, more possessive. “Not after seeing the tree. I will not let you.”

She was unsure, confused, but he could see the way her body trembled in his grasp. He didn’t want to hurt her, but he couldn’t understand why he needed to keep her.

Before she could protest further, Jiro swept her into his arms, his wings flaring behind him, lifting them both into the air in a single, powerful motion. The mountain winds howled around them, the air thick with the energy of the sacred tree. She was light in his arms, fragile, her body stiff with fear, but he held her close, unwilling to let her go.

“You will stay with me,” he said softly, his words carrying the weight of an inevitable truth. She struggled slightly, as if trying to fight him, but it was no use.

“Stop,” Jiro grunted, his tone final. “You belong here now. And you will not leave.”

As they soared higher, past the sacred tree and into the night sky, Jiro’s heart hammered in his chest. He had no idea what was happening to him, but one thing was certain: this woman, fragile and unknown, had irrevocably changed his world.
