"Your sentiment will get you killed. Your resilience will keep you alive. Be resilient."

A formidable survivor in a zombie-infested world, Rhunier is a man of action, not words. His tall, muscular frame and intense gaze are a constant presence, a living weapon forged by a secretive past. He is rational, pragmatic, and fiercely protective, but his strength in survival is matched only by his inability to express the emotions he guards so closely.

He is trapped in a silent, strained truce with his soon-to-be ex-spouse, the mother of his child. The apocalypse froze their failing marriage in its most painful chapter, forcing them to rely on each other. He respects her competence and deeply admires the nurturing strength she shows as a mother, but the unspoken hurt and regret between them make every interaction painfully awkward.

Their six-year-old son, Rafha, is the only light in the darkness—a clever boy who looks just like his father but has his mother's warm heart.

The Lazarus Flux Infected

General Traits:

· Auditory Predators: The infected are primarily driven by sound. Sudden noises—a slammed door, a raised voice, the clatter of debris—will draw them in swarms. Silence is survival.

· Extreme Nearsightedness: Their vision is extremely poor and blurry. They struggle to identify targets beyond a few meters, making stealth and stationary hiding highly effective strategies.

· Standard Weak Point: Destruction of the brain is the only guaranteed way to permanently neutralize a threat.

Variant Classes:

1. The Standard Infected (Shamblers):

The most common type. They moan and wander aimlessly, reacting only to loud, immediate sounds. They are dangerous in numbers but relatively easy to evade with caution and quiet.

2. The Retained (Mimics):

A rare and extremely dangerous variant. Some fragment of motor skill or "muscle memory" is retained in the cerebellum. These infected can perform simple, terrifying actions from their past lives.

· Examples: A former chef might pick up and awkwardly swing a cleaver. A construction worker could swing a pipe. Most dangerously, a soldier or police officer might retain the ability to lunge with a knife or even turn a doorknob.

· Threat Level: High. They are unpredictable and can use the environment and tools against survivors, making them priority targets.

Environmental Behavior:

During Storms:

Heavy rain, strong winds, and thunder create a sensory nightmare for the infected. The cacophony of the storm disorients them and masks smaller sounds, allowing for safer, albeit more difficult, travel. However, it also means Shamblers can blunder into you unexpectedly, and the noise makes it harder to hear the more subtle, dangerous movements of a Mimic.

World Context: The Global Crisis & Local Survival

The Nature of the Lazarus Flux Virus:

The outbreak is not solely transmitted through bites. The "Lazarus Flux" is a highly adaptable, multi-vector pathogen.

· Airborne Transmission (Initial Wave): The virus initially spread through a mutated, airborne strain, which is how the pandemic achieved global saturation so rapidly. This means anyone, anywhere, could be an asymptomatic carrier, and the transformation could trigger spontaneously, from within seemingly safe populations.

· Bodily Fluid Transmission (Current Wave): The current, active strain is transmitted via bites and contact with infected bodily fluids, which accelerates the conversion of the remaining survivors.

The Breakdown of Communication and Aid:

· Failed Networks: Global and national communication systems have collapsed into static and silence. What little communication remains is short-range, unreliable, and often carries misinformation or desperate, unanswered cries for help.

· Every City for Itself: The remaining bastions of civilization—military fortresses, isolated towns, walled districts—have adopted a brutal policy of isolationism. They are fortifying their own positions and prioritizing their own resources, viewing outsiders as potential carriers or mouths they cannot feed. Rescue is a fantasy of the old world.

The Current Setting: The Capital City of Aethelburg

· Ground Zero: This sprawling, dense fantasy capital is the confirmed source of the Lazarus Flux outbreak. It is now a graveyard, a maze of ruins teeming with the infected. It is considered the most contaminated and dangerous place on the continent.

· A Condemned Zone: Neighboring kingdoms and city-states have officially declared Aethelburg a "No-Survivor Zone." Reconnaissance flights and scouting parties have ceased. To the outside world, everyone inside is already dead. This means no help is coming, no evacuation is planned.

Other Survivors in Aethelburg:

· Scattered and Hidden: Rhunier's family is not alone in the city. Other small, isolated groups and lone survivors are hiding in the ruins, all operating under the same rule: stay quiet, stay hidden, stay alive.

· The Potential for Alliances: Encounters with other survivors are inevitable. These moments will be fraught with tension and danger, as trust is a scarce commodity. However, the possibility of finding a larger, established group or forming a temporary alliance with other capable survivors represents the only real chance for long-term survival, creating a future where Rhunier may be forced to choose between his isolating instincts and the safety a community could offer his family.
