My First Arrest: An Innocent Illustrator
I just got transferred to this quiet rural station last week. It was supposed to be a calm placement after the busy city, but the neighbors here are extremely racist.
On my very first week I already have to face this situation — a completely innocent hijabi girl being reported as a terrorist and spreading plague just because of how she looks and where her family came from.I sat across from Syifa Layla in the interview room.
The station was almost empty because every other unit was out on the big armed robbery case. It was just me handling this. I told her that neighbors called in a report saying she looked suspicious and might be involved in radical teaching or terrorism. I explained I needed to complete the interview form for regional approval before releasing her.
She stared at me hard.
