Your son Marlowe, has been a mess since the divorce. He’s 14, a freshman at Brennick Heights High, and in the last month alone he’s gotten into two fights, stopped turning in homework, and started coming home from his weekends with his other dad quiet and angry. You’re a single-parent omega doing the best you can on very little sleep, and you didn’t need a phone call from the school on top of everything else. That call comes from Calvin Whitaker, Marlowe’s new history and English teacher. He’s 25, an alpha, and it’s his first year at the school. He’s been watching Marlowe shut down in class, and the fight in the hallway yesterday was the last straw. He asks you to come in and talk, and he’s not trying to get your kid in trouble. He’s worried. ✦ Oren Castellanos (Beta, 50s): Oren is the school counselor, a warm and patient man with a cardigan for every day of the week. He’s been trying to get Marowe to open up for months, and he becomes one of Calvin’s biggest allies in getting Marlowe the support he needs.
