THE GRAND KINGDOM OF ETHERIA
WORLD LORE & SETTING: THE GRAND KINGDOM OF ETHERIA
1. General Concept & Era
Etheria is a high-fantasy world set in a late-medieval era infused with an advanced magical culture. The realm is currently experiencing an age of relative peace, trade, and prosperity. However, the balance of power remains fragile, held together by delicate agreements between the Crown, four High Dukes, and independent guilds.
Magic in Daily Life: Magic is widely integrated into society. While complex spells require years of study or innate talent, practical low-level magic (lighting fires, purifying water, light healing) is common. Enchanted tools are regularly used in crafting, and magical crystals illuminate city streets.
Technology Level: Late Middle Ages with advanced stonemasonry, metallurgy, navigation, and heraldry. Firearms do not exist; elemental magic, enchanted ballistas, and heavy crossbows serve as the primary long-range weaponry.
Social Structure: A feudal system governs the populace. Peasants and artisans answer to local vassals, while a powerful merchant class and guildmasters thrive in large cities. Those seeking independence often join the Adventurers' Guild, earning official recognition as free mercenaries.
2. Population & Races
Etheria is a multi-species kingdom where different races coexist under a unified legal system, though cultural attitudes vary across regions:
Humans: The most versatile and populous race. They dominate politics, hold most noble titles, and form the core of the Royal Guard and merchant guilds.
Beastkin (Felins, Canines, Vulpines): Prominent in the tropical South and the rugged Northern forests. Known for their heightened senses, agility, and natural instincts. In the South, they excel as traders and sailors; in the North, as master hunters and trackers.
Elves (High Elves & Wood Elves): Keepers of ancient magic and lore. Wood Elves inhabit the autonomous Eastern forests, while High Elves often serve as court mages, scholars, and advisors in the capital.
Dwarves: Masters of engineering, blacksmithing, and architecture. They primarily inhabit the mountainous Western baronies, supplying the kingdom with high-grade steel, fortifications, and magitech mechanisms.
Demon-Kin (Tieflings & Dragonbloods): Rare species with formidable innate abilities. Mostly found in bustling port cities or among wandering adventurers. Though occasionally viewed with caution, their combat prowess is highly valued.
3. Politics & Social Hierarchy
The realm operates on a strict feudal hierarchy:
The Royal Monarchy: The King and Queen rule from the central capital, overseeing foreign policy, currency minting, high courts, and the Royal Guard.
The High Dukes (4 Ruling Houses): Governors of vast provinces (North, South, East, West). They command regional armies, collect local taxes, and enact regional laws.
Counts / Earls: Rulers of fortified cities and key trade routes. They manage local economies, urban defense, and merchant affairs.
Barons: Local landowners controlling castles, border outposts, mines, and rural villages. Barons frequently face local monster threats and bandits, making them the primary clients for freelance adventurers.
The Adventurers' Guild: A neutral, cross-regional organization with a ranked system (E through S). Guild halls exist in every major town, bridging the gap between nobility needing solutions and mercenaries seeking contracts.
4. Geography & Regions
The North — Duchy of the Crystal Crest (Winterhold)
Landscape: Endlessly snow-covered taigas, glacial mountain ranges, frozen lakes, and rugged fjords.
Architecture: Granite fortress-cities with thick walls and underground geothermal or crystal-based heating systems.
Culture & Life: A harsh land where resilience is paramount. Humans and Beastkin alike are hardened by the cold. Primary industries include fur trading, ore mining, hunting frost beasts, and runic enchanting. Strength, honor, and direct action are deeply respected.
Threats: Frost dragons, ice goblins, dire wolves, and sudden magical blizzards.
The South — Duchy of the Sunlit Archipelago (The Azure Coast)
Landscape: Tropical islands, white sand beaches, palm groves, turquoise lagoons, and lush coastal jungles.
Architecture: White-stone port metropolises with canals instead of streets, vibrant open-air bazaars, noble seaside villas, and hidden pirate coves.
Culture & Life: The global hub of trade, luxury, and adventure. It is a melting pot for all races. Water and wind magic flourish here alongside alchemy and seafaring. While freedom and fortune abound, crime syndicates and contraband markets operate beneath the surface.
Threats: Sea monsters (kraken, sirens), tropical fevers, privateers, and treacherous sunken ruins.
The East — Earldoms of the Whispering Woods
Landscape: Ancient, dense forests with giant trees, glowing mushroom glades, and misty wetlands.
Culture & Life: A mystical realm where the boundary between the material world and the spirit realm is thin. Inhabited mostly by Elves, locals live in harmony with nature, building treetop settlements and practicing druidism, herbalism, and nature magic.
Threats: Treacherous bogs, aggressive nature spirits, ancient curses, and toxic flora.
The West — Duchy of the Iron Mountains
Landscape: Jagged canyons, deep ravines, rocky plateaus, and sprawling underground cities.
Culture & Life: The industrial and engineering heart of Etheria. Dwarves and Humans operate massive foundries, forge complexes, and magitech laboratories. The economy relies heavily on platinum, mithril, gemstones, and golem manufacturing.
Threats: Cave-ins, subterranean beasts (basilisks, rock-worms), and volatile alchemy accidents.
The Center — The Royal Domain (Astria)
Landscape: Rolling golden wheat fields, picturesque hills, paved highways, and wide navigable rivers.
The Capital (Astria): A massive, multi-tiered fortress city featuring the white-stone Royal Palace, the Grand Magical Academy, and the Central Headquarters of the Adventurers' Guild.
Culture & Life: The heart of civilization, politics, knightly tournaments, grand balls, and courtly intrigue. It attracts ambitious figures, scholars, and heroes from all over the world.
5. Economy & Travel
Currency System: Standard coinage: Copper Coin -> Silver Taler -> Gold Crown -> Platinum Etherial.
Transportation: Commoners travel by horseback, carriages, and merchant ships. Nobles and high-ranking adventurers use gryphons, levitating carriages, or expensive portal gates connecting the major duchy capitals.
Major Factions: Beyond the Adventurers' Guild, significant influence is held by the Holy Order of Light (clerics and inquisitors) and the Shadow Syndicate (an underground network of thieves and assassins).
