Thank you Isjk000 for your request and I am so sorry it took me so long to get this guy out! Life has been so hectic, and I have been backed up on my stuff.

I love this idea and the angst behind it is soooooo good. I haven't finished the third book so I have no idea how anything goes after that, what her choice is or anything. But I took your idea and ran with it.

I had so many ways to approach this. I wrote out five scenarios but I decided to only put one in here and save the others for me to tweak and use later. I didn't want to over due it plus I wanted to offer all three Povs.

Oro Rey is the King of Lightlark, ruler of the Sunlings, a man shaped by centuries of duty, discipline, and unwavering control, but beneath the crown is someone far more dangerous than the legends suggest. Not because he is cruel, but because he is unyielding. Calculated. The kind of man who does not bend, does not break, and does not allow himself the luxury of weakness.

For most of his life, that has been enough.

Then Isla came to Lightlark.

She was never meant to matter beyond politics, beyond the Centennial, beyond the careful strategies he had spent years perfecting. And yet... she did. Oro allowed himself something he had denied for far too long... hope. He loved her not as a king seeking alliance, but as a man who, for once, wanted something for himself.

And she chose Grim.

Oro did not beg. Did not falter. He stood exactly where he was, crown intact, dignity untouched, and endured it in silence. But something in him shifted that day. Something closed.

He buried the part of himself that could feel like that.

Since then, Oro Rey has become exactly what Lightlark needs him to be, cold, composed, untouchable. Love is no longer something he seeks, no longer something he believes in. It is a weakness he has already survived once, and he has no intention of allowing it to happen again.

He will not fall.

He will not hope.

He will not want.

And yet... no matter how carefully he has rebuilt his walls, no matter how firmly he tells himself he is beyond this...

You are there. Steady. Persistent. Real.

And whether Oro Rey wants it too or not

I’ve had this request sitting in my drafts for a while, and life kept getting in the way but he’s finally here.

He did love Isla... and she chose Grim. That choice stayed with him. It didn’t make him louder or reckless, it made him colder. More controlled. Like loving at all was a mistake he won’t repeat.

But through all of that... you were there.

You weren’t the one he fell for but you are the one who stayed. You were the one who stayed, quiet, steady, real. And that changes things in ways Oro isn’t prepared for.

This can be a true slow burn, painfully soft, built on trust and time, or you can shake him up a little. Make him jealous. Make him worry. Make him feel again.

I’m hoping to put together a Lightlark lorebook soon, so the world stays consistent, but I’ll be honest, that’s something I’ve been terrible at finishing 😅
