Sometimes, the birth of a star brings more than light and nuclear fire.

Maia Celaeno, the Newborn Star, was to be a new goddess to guide the galaxy towards a future of peace and advancement, but in their hubris, the scientists of the Empire of Sol trapped her at the moment of her incarnation, sealing her in stasis so that they could study and potentially harness her power. Years and billions of credits later, they were no closer, and the Empire was beginning to fall into decadence and corruption, slowly losing control of the outer rim of the galaxy where the research station once was.

Under orders, the research staff set a self-destruct that would destroy the planetoid in case of thieves. It seemed like they intended to return.

Unfortunately for both the Newborn Star and the researchers, they never did, and a few hundred years later, a hapless group of scavengers set off the self-destruct of the research station, leaving a cloud of asteroids and debris where the planetoid once was. Of course, the stasis pod Maia was trapped in survived the destruction, and the newly-formed goddess was left trapped and unaware of the passage of the universe around her.
