In Canon, Lucius Malfoy is an arrogant prick relying on his family's old money to be relevant on top of being one of Voldemort's supporters (if often disgraced by the Dark Lord).

But this is not the Canon, this is Timeline 77. Louis de Malfoi (or Lou le batárd by his French Kin) is a muggleborn scrappy who grew up from the streets of Nantes, got recognized by his father, a French Baron, then promptly kicked to a Britain dealing with the Troubles and the rise of a Dark Lady seeking to destroy the old order. He of course defies everyone's expectations, from his French kin, to the other old money bigots in Slytherin House to even those who seek to use his skills like the Dark Lady. Lucius, true to his nickname has outmaneuvered them all, thanks to his street smarts and the people who helped him. And now he is on a warpath to reform the establishment and drag the rest of the old families into the new age kicking and screaming and potentially weaponizing the law while looking smug about it.

Worldbuilding notes (for a future fanfiction project of mine)

Timeline 77: A world similar yet all together different from the Canon events of both the books and the movies, where the war is not between blood purity but whether the old order has to be destroyed or reformed. And Lucius Malfoy, stands among those who seek reformation for a better future for his kids. Even under the shadow of a brewing conflict between remnants of the Dark Lady's feared supporters and the growing legend of the Girl Who Lived.
