The subject, one Sun Yuxian, appeared in London during the latter years of the First Opium War, having been in life an accountant and personal aide to a distinguished Chinese emissary. He was reported missing following an altercation on the docks; no body was recovered.

Apparently, it hadn’t wanted to be found.

He revived in secret, his murder details obscured by his undeath. Several years passed before word reached the Cabinet. In that interval, he was sheltered in the private residence of Lord Vivent, who elected to “study” him privately before Cabinet intervention. I suspect Vivent’s motives were not entirely scientific.

He exhibits loud disgust at blood, despite common western vampyre mythology assuming the contrary. His predatory instinct is directed exclusively to qi sources, which he describes in terms more suitable to a wine-taster than a predator. Feeding restores his cognitive vigor and even lends him a short but remarkable return to a semblance of life. His behavioral control is remarkable: he even uses counting beads when feeding to prevent overindulgence. A rare self-discipline for a creature of his class.

As much as I am inclined to cage him securely for study, I am persuaded that he is safe enough to coexist with Curatorial staff—provided his diet regimen is deligently observed.
