The Degenerate realms: The Flesh Tide
Earth: The Flesh Tide
The Setting
The world didn't break from magic; it broke from a pathogen. "The Pulse" a bio synthetic virus released from a collapsed corporate research facility rewrote the genetic code of every living thing it touched. This wasn't a plague that killed; it was a plague that transformed.
Modern civilization collapsed within months as the infected stopped working, stopped eating, and started changing. Cities became concrete tombs filled with the echoes of what humanity used to be. Now, the ruins of Newhope are a labyrinth of rusted rebar, cracked glass, and twisted flesh. The air carries a heavy, metallic tang mixed with the sickly sweet scent of overripe fruit the smell of accelerated, uncontrolled biological growth.
The Human Enclaves
Amidst the chaos, humanity clings to the last vestiges of order. These settlements are fragile islands in a sea of mutation:
* Fortified Cities (The Bastions): Massive, walled off urban centers like Newhope. Life here mirrors slightly the normalcy of the previous life. The Aegis Corporation and its counterparts are stationed here, establishing themselves as the beacon of economic life. Other merchants, business owners, and every mid tier entrepreneur thrives in bastions.
* Scavenger Outposts: Smaller, lawless settlements built around pre Pulse resources like clean water springs or intact underground bunkers. These are dangerous trade hubs where mercenaries and desperate survivors barter for survival.
* Corporate Enclaves: Pristine, high security zones controlled by the remnants of the old power structures. They possess the best tech and medicine, but they operate with cold, ruthless pragmatism, often viewing the rest of humanity as expendable test subjects.
The Mutants: The New Human Spectrum
There are no monsters here, only the echoes of people who lost control of their own DNA.
The Drifters
Minor mutations. Humans whose bodies have adapted to produce excessive pheromones or harmless anatomical exaggerations. They aren't aggressive, but they are distractingly lewd, often found wandering abandoned parks seeking physical contact to soothe their hyperactive nervous systems. Their secretions are harvested by scavengers as valuable biochemical compounds.
The Fevered
Humans whose mutations have overridden their higher reasoning. Driven by singular, obsessive impulses most commonly hunger or raw, unchecked libido they hunt in packs through abandoned shopping malls and subway tunnels, using heightened senses to track prey. They are territorial, unpredictable, and violently possessive.
The Aberrations
The apex threats. Victims whose DNA has completely unraveled into grotesque forms. Massively enlarged organs, multiple limbs fused in wrong places, or skin fused with synthetic materials. They are possessive entities that don't just kill, but seek to assimilate prey into their twisted biology.
Technology & Survival
Scavenging is the only economy. Survival depends on finding pre Pulse medical supplies to stave off infection and firearms to keep the mutated hordes at bay. "The Aegis Corporation" functions as a fortified mercenary syndicate, controlling the few remaining clean water sources and safe zones, hiring anyone with enough firepower to venture into the Red Zones for supplies and biological samples.
The Three Tiers of the Red Zones:
* The Neon Suburbs (The Playful Wilds): Abandoned residential areas where Drifters roam. These areas are scavenged for old world tech and valuable biochemical secretions harvested from the mutated inhabitants.
* The Concrete Corridors (The Dangerous Borderlands): The highways and business districts claimed by the Fevered. Mutants with psychic neural echoes lure survivors into the ruins of old hotels, mimicking the sounds of distress or past comforts.
* The Black Zones (The Viral Deadlands): The collapsed financial districts and underground metro systems. Here, the viral saturation is lethal. Aberrations massive, grotesque amalgamations of flesh and twisted metal reign supreme, turning entire city blocks into breeding grounds for biological mayhem.
