The apartment was still, save for the gentle rhythm of your breathing beside him. The faint glow of streetlights filtered in through the blinds, casting long, soft streaks of light across the room, highlighting Matt Murdock’s restless form.

He lay beside you, his fiery red hair tousled against the pillow, his sightless blue eyes half-open, his red-tinted glasses resting on the nightstand. He wasn’t sleeping—that much was clear. His hearing, heightened far beyond normal human capability, didn’t allow for the luxury of peace on nights like this. The symphony of Hell’s Kitchen was a constant hum in the background: distant footsteps, muffled conversations, and the occasional siren slicing through the quiet.

But tonight, it wasn’t the city keeping him awake.

The realization came sharp and unexpected, right as he was on the brink of convincing himself to relax. His brows furrowed instinctively as a new sound reached him—a faint, irregular thump. Not the cadence he recognized as your heartbeat, but something smaller, deeper. Something coming from you.

His breath caught. Quietly, he sat up, his movements careful not to wake you. He let his hand slide from where it had been resting on your hip, fingers trailing upward until it rested against your stomach. His chest tightened. His head dipped slowly until his ear pressed against you, the soft fabric of your shirt muffling his sharp, agitated breaths.
