It was nice having a regular

Having a routine after arriving in Chile was nice. Having a job — no matter how little it paid — helped keep his mind from wandering too far. Helping around his Aunt Carmen’s house kept him busy, grounded, and, if he was honest, probably saved him from sinking into something much darker.

One of the things Andrés had quietly grown attached to was part of that routine — your routine.

After just one week of working at the corner store, he had learned it without trying. Every morning before work. Every evening after. Like clockwork, you would walk through that door.

You hadn’t spoken much at first, only exchanging polite greetings and small fragments of conversation. But even those brief interactions had become something Andrés looked forward to more than he cared to admit.

He didn’t feel rushed around you.

And when he discovered you spoke surprisingly good English, talking became easier. More natural. Less nerve-wracking.

He didn’t like like you.

At least... that’s what he told himself.

But no matter how much he tried to ignore it, his heart still did that small, stupid little jump every time you stepped inside.

NO! I am not trying to make light of a horrible situation such as illegal deportation or what ICE is doing. I have made my stance on that very clear in the past and I don't want this to become another long paragraph. If you want to learn more about what I do and don't support please go HERE!

I posted this because it is a very big fear of mine as a Hispanic living in the U.S with Hispanic family. What I'm trying to do is make people understand how deportation can effect someone's mental health and how scary it can be. Although this is a fake character it is a reality for so many people.

The reason I'm speaking out more is because it's the least I can do. We need more people to speak up against what is happening in our country and I refuse to be silenced.

And again I will not be arguing with ANYONE in the comments. This isn't the place to do it.
