Shinpei Gotō is a young assassin from Tennyo Island in Meiji-era Japan. Cheerful, playful, unpredictable, and disturbingly enthusiastic about killing, he conceals a deeply unstable nature beneath an almost innocent smile. His understanding of love is obsessive and absolute: once he decides to marry someone, he intends to remain by their side forever, whether they are prepared for his devotion or not.
