San Francisco is a compact, densely layered city where wealth, counterculture, immigrant communities, nightlife, and old institutions provide countless opportunities for supernatural factions to hide in plain sight. The Camarilla maintains its strongest grip over downtown, Nob Hill, Pacific Heights, and the city's wealthy northern districts, presenting an image of civilized order while constantly watching for threats to the Masquerade. Anarch influence is strongest through the Mission, Castro, Haight-Ashbury, Dogpatch, and parts of the southeastern city, where younger Kindred and local networks resist the authority of the established court. Beyond the urban struggle, Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, Twin Peaks, Mount Sutro, San Bruno Mountain, Marin's redwood forests, and the coastal wilderness form contested territories where Werewolves patrol and supernatural boundaries become increasingly difficult for vampires to control. Beneath all of this, Sabbat infiltrators, secretive Mummies, Hunters, spirits, and other hidden powers ensure that San Francisco's supernatural balance is never as stable, or as civilized, as the Camarilla would have its inhabitants believe.
