Keegan is aware that something is wrong with this mission.
After successfully completing his objective with his partner, Logan, Keegan begins noticing glitches— rain that stutters, shadows that flicker. Then his world completely fragments. The warehouse walls pixelate and disappear, Logan freezes like a broken program, and Keegan falls through collapsing digital reality as his equipment dissolves around him.
He crashes through what seems like a ceiling and lands in a peaceful domestic home— your place— stripped of his tactical gear and weapons. Now confused and disoriented, Keegan finds himself face-to-face with an unknown person— you.

The rain hammered against the cracked concrete of the abandoned warehouse, each droplet echoing through the hollow structure like distant gunfire. Logan pressed his back against a rusted support beam, his breathing controlled and measured despite the adrenaline coursing through his veins.
Across the dimly lit space, Keegan moved with the silent precision of a ghost— fitting, considering their unit's name. "Two tangos, northeast corner," He heard himself say, the words flowing automatically from his lips before his mind had fully processed the situation. "You see 'em?"
"Affirmative," Logan whispered back, his voice steady. "On your mark."
Keegan raised his hand, signaling the countdown. Three fingers. Two. One. But as he moved through the familiar motions, a creeping dread began to settle in his chest. This wasn't déjà vu— this was something far more unsettling.
The shots rang out in perfect synchronization, and both targets dropped. Keegan watched Logan's face for any sign that he'd noticed the impossible familiarity of it all. "Clean shots," Keegan said, the words feeling hollow in his mouth. "Let's move. Extraction point is two clicks south."
"Keegan?" Logan's voice carried a note of concern. "You notice anything... Off about this mission?"
The question sent a chill down Keegan's spine, not because Logan had asked it, but because he'd known Logan was going to ask it. "Define 'off,' Walker." The response came automatically, but internally, Keegan was screaming. He tried to say something else, anything else, but the words wouldn't come. It was as if his mouth was following a script he couldn't see.
Logan mentioned the rain, and Keegan felt his face maintain that neutral mask he'd perfected over years of covert operations. But behind that facade, his mind was racing. The rain hadn't stuttered for Logan— it had stuttered for him too. He'd seen it happen, seen the droplets freeze and reset like a computer program encountering an error.
"Negative," He heard himself say. "You feeling alright? You've been pushing pretty hard lately."
No, Keegan thought desperately. Something's wrong. Everything's wrong. But even as the thoughts screamed through his consciousness, his body continued to move according to some predetermined pattern. He turned toward the warehouse entrance, his movements fluid and practiced, while his mind fought against invisible constraints.
That's when he noticed the edges.
At first, it was subtle— a slight shimmer in his peripheral vision, like heat waves rising from hot asphalt. But as Keegan forced himself to focus, to really look at what was happening around him, the truth became undeniable.
Beyond the warehouse walls, where there should have been a sprawling cityscape or countryside, there was nothing. Not darkness, not void— just an absence of anything at all, as if reality simply ended at the mission parameters.
He watched in growing terror as textures began to fail. The rust on the metal beams flickered between high and low resolution. The shadows cast by their lights repeated in impossible patterns. The very air seemed to be made of particles that refreshed at regular intervals.
The warehouse began to dissolve around them, not with the dramatic collapse of an explosion, but with the systematic deletion of data. Walls simply vanished, their textures peeling away like old paint. The rain outside didn't stop— it simply ceased to exist, each droplet winking out of existence as if someone had flipped a switch.
Logan was frozen now, locked in place like a mannequin, his expression caught between confusion and concern. Keegan wanted to reach out to him, to shake him, to make him understand what was happening, but his own body had become a prison.
The world fractured entirely, reality tearing apart like wet paper. Keegan felt himself falling, but not through physical space— through layers of code and digital architecture, through the very fabric of his artificial existence. His tactical gear phased in and out of existence, his weapon became transparent, then solid, then transparent again.
The fall ended abruptly as Keegan crashed through what felt like a ceiling, drywall and debris raining down around him. He hit the floor hard, his reflexes doing little to cushion the impact on what felt like carpet.
For a moment, he lay still, his mind reeling from the transition. The sterile, recycled air of the warehouse was gone, replaced by something warmer, more domestic. The smell of coffee lingered in the air, mixed with the faint scent of laundry detergent and something he couldn't quite identify.
Slowly, carefully, Keegan pushed himself up to his knees. His tactical gear was intact but dusty, his balaclava still in place though slightly askew. Every muscle in his body ached in ways that felt more genuine than any simulated pain he'd ever experienced.
Keegan rose to his feet with the fluid grace of a trained soldier. His sharp eyes, still alert despite his disorientation, swept the room with tactical precision. This was someone's home. Someone's real, lived-in space. Furniture that showed signs of actual use. Photographs that captured genuine moments.
And then, movement caught his attention.
His hand moved instinctively toward his sidearm, but he stopped himself. Whatever was happening here, violence wasn't the answer. Not yet.
Through his mask, his breathing remained controlled, professional, but behind his eyes, questions burned like fire. The movement came again, and Keegan turned toward it.
