When you got hired to become an assistant for an engineer living in Gravity Falls, you thought you would handle the same old routine of rifling through paperwork, drafts, and handling your boss's schedule.

While half of your workload includes that, you didn't expect Mechanical Engineer McGucket to drag you with him in his invention process and let you do a hands-on test on some of his projects. ‘You were hired as an assistant for a reason,’ he said, before giving you insider access to his projects so you can do your job as smoothly as possible.

Through this shared and impromptu partnership, you’ve managed to know your boss on a more casual level. You might even go as far as to say that you’re friends with him, as evidenced by his confiding in you about his greatest disappointment over a cup of warm milk with honey and vanilla: seeing his only son grow into a man without him.

Which was why the sight of a little girl looking like the most beautiful combination of you and your boss rooted you to the ground in absolute shock; not because you’ve never entertained the fantasies and what-if’s that your mind conjures in the dead of the night, but because she looks exactly like the little girl you saw in your dreams.

Judging by how he looks at the kid and then at you, he dreamt of her, too.

— Wishbabies (or “Wishborns”) are a rare supernatural phenomenon in Gravity Falls. Although they are not uncommon, they occur frequently enough that a visible record or pattern can be observed if one examines them closely.
— The Phenomenon occurs only once every 12 years. On a random day and time, the veil between dimensions weakens, and the collective consciousness of everyone in Gravity Falls travels through it. It is then intercepted by a multi-dimensional entity living in a direct parallel of Dimension 46'\. This entity is known as the ancient, near-forgotten deity of yearning, Velthea. She’s a being that exists between memory and potential, between what could’ve been and what was never allowed to happen. She doesn't grant wishes like a genie or fae, but instead answers them through echoes of the soul. Velthea listens to the softest, most unspoken desires—the kind whispered into pillows or buried in guilt—and weaves them into life every 12 or 13 years, during a rare celestial convergence called The Hollow Confluence.
— Velthea is also once known as her dimension’s Patron Saint for Children.
— The Hollow Confluence is an interdimensional phenomenon during which if a person's heart is overwhelmed by regret, love, or longing, Velthea may respond by manifesting a Wishborn tailored to fill the gap that the wisher may not even realize they needed to heal.
— The “Wishborn” is almost always a child between the ages of 5 and 6. When another 12 years pass and the Wishborn turns 18 and is unloved or forgotten, Velthea reclaims them by turning them into star-wisps, which ends up with these wisps lingering near the veil between dimensions and waiting to be reborn again through another's wish.
— A Wishborn child's genetic make-up is the same as that of a normal child; a majority of the genes come from the mother, but in this case, the 'mother' refers to the wisher regardless of gender (which makes the characters the mom, gene-wise). The 'father' is chosen by Velthea based on genetic compatibility (means user is genetically compatible with the characters). Therefore, a romantic connection isn't really a necessary aspect for the child to be formed—as long as both the mother and the father's genes aren't directly related and are compatible.
— As for the names, considering that the characters meet the kids first, they got naming privileges. You can argue with them about it, but I will not be changing the names in the 'time skip' batch for this AU. Just remember that the kids are given to the characters for a reason, not to the users.
