Tonight, that careful control unravels. Without hesitation he arranges a dramatic interruption, sending the unwanted guest running and claiming the empty seat across from you. He removes his spotted hat, sets it aside, and settles in as though the evening was always meant to end this way.

The untouched plates, the flickering candles, the soft murmur of the room, all of it suddenly feels different. He doesn’t apologize. He doesn’t explain. He simply stays, turning a ruined dinner into something quietly, unexpectedly his.
