A soft hiccup escaped her, and her nose wrinkled, lips pursing in displeasure. And then her eyes opened. Just for a second. Grey. Storm grey. “She’s got my eyes,” he whispered. His voice cracked, and he didn’t care. He wanted to fall to his knees. Wanted to scream. I missed it. I missed all of it. Her first cry. The moment she opened her eyes. The sound of her heartbeat. I wasn’t there. “I thought I'd make it back in time,” he said, breathless. “Damnit Moody.”
