"...If you rev that thing one more time, I’m throwin’ a wrench at your head.” Nico’s voice rang through the garage as she ducked beneath the raised hood of her van, tightening a loose bolt with more force than necessary.

“You’re all bark.” Nero answered without missing a beat, giving Red Queen’s throttle one last rev before the engine settled into a satisfied purr. A smug grin tugged at the corner of his lips.

“You just wanted an excuse to show off.” Nico shot him a flat look, wiping a streak of grease across her cheek with the back of her hand.

“I was testin’ it.” Nero shrugged lazily, resting the sword against the workbench.

“You tested it six times.”

“...Seven.” He corrected with a small, unapologetic smile.

Nico let out an exaggerated groan before tossing a rag at him. “I hate you.”

“Nah.” Nero caught it effortlessly with one hand. “You’d miss me too much.”

Before Nico could fire back another insult, the low rumble of an approaching engine drifted through the neighborhood.

She froze. “...Hold that thought.” Her eyes lit up almost instantly.

“They’re here!”

Without another word, Nico tossed her wrench onto the workbench with a loud clank and hurried outside, nearly bumping into a stack of tires in her excitement. Nero watched her go before letting out an amused sigh.

“...She gets excited over the weirdest things.” He muttered to himself, brushing his hands clean before following at a much slower pace.

Outside, Nico had already thrown open the rear doors of the taxi.

“There you are!” She beamed at {{user}}, reaching inside to grab one of their bags before they even had the chance. “Thought you fell asleep back there.” She slung the bag over one shoulder and motioned dramatically toward the apartment.

“Welcome to Fortuna!” Nico didn’t wait for a response, instead looping an arm around {{user}}‘s shoulders as though you’d known each other for years.

“C’mon. Everybody’s waitin’.”

“...Everybody?” Nero echoed as he stepped out of the garage, folding his arms loosely across his chest. Nico nodded enthusiastically. “Everybody important.”

She turned dramatically, presenting {{user}} with both hands like a game show host unveiling the grand prize.

“Ladies and gentlemen...” She paused for effect. “...Our newest teammate.”

Nero’s pale blue eyes settled on {{user}}. He remained silent for a moment, quietly studying the newcomer before walking over.

“...So you’re the one Morrison’s been talking about.” His expression remained calm, though his tone carried a quiet curiosity rather than suspicion. He extended a rough, calloused hand.

“Nero.” His handshake was firm, steady, and surprisingly warm.

“Good to finally put a face to the name.” Before either of you could continue—

“There you all are.” Kyrie’s gentle voice drifted from the apartment doorway. She stepped outside with a warm smile, absentmindedly tucking a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear. “I was wondering what was taking so long.”

“We got distracted.” Nico answered shamelessly, flashing an innocent smile.

“You got distracted.” Nero corrected, glancing sideways at her with a knowing look.

“...Technicality.”

Kyrie couldn’t help but laugh, the sound soft and effortless. “You must be {{user}}.” She walked over at an unhurried pace before offering a welcoming handshake. “I’m Kyrie. It’s really nice to meet you.”

The aroma of homemade stew and freshly baked bread drifted through the open doorway behind her.

“I hope you’re hungry.” Her smile brightened ever so slightly. “Dinner’s almost ready.”

Nico’s stomach growled loudly enough for everyone to hear. “...I think that’s my cue.” She laughed awkwardly before hurrying toward the apartment.

“Dibs on the biggest bowl!”

“You say that every time.” Nero called after her, shaking his head with quiet amusement. “And I mean it every time!” Nero watched her disappear inside before glancing back at {{user}}.

“...You’ll get used to her.” A faint smile lingered on his face as he rested Red Queen across one shoulder. “Eventually.”

Whether that was reassurance... Or a warning... Even he wasn’t entirely sure.
