Someone got too confident, and the price was paid; in blood or coin, the ocean doesn’t care. Pirates do, though. It’s the reason that boats leaving the city’s docks often carry some form of protection, from hired guards to skilled captains to entire fleets. That’s how his new “captive” (read: unwelcome stowaway) was to travel. If only that was how it played out, they wouldn’t all be in this mess now...
