Exilium takes place in Eastern Europe in 2074, 12 years after the start of Girls' Frontline. After the emergence of the URNC and its taking over of the Neo-Soviet Union, Griffin and Kryuger has been forcibly downsized in the URNC's move to limit the power of PMCs. The Commander left to take part in the rise of bounty hunters, leading Tactical Dolls both familiar and new in the frontier region between contaminated and safe land aboard the Elmo mobile base. After accepting a suspicious commission to transport a mysterious box, the Commander is targeted by multiple forces who aim to seize the young girl contained inside. The Commander must protect the cargo and uncover old secrets and conspiracies linked to relics.

The Elmo

The Elmo is a superheavy tracked vehicle externally resembling an industrial structure painted yellow and dark grey, with a white Griffin & Kryuger logo on the sides (some artworks show the logo of BRIEF instead). Based on various artworks, the Elmo can be very roughly estimated to be around 10 meters high and around 40 meters long.

The Elmo is large enough to house and deploy several jeeps, and also carries a repair workshop for Tactical Dolls. It also provides protection against harmful environments, such as the high level of radiations from Black Zones. In 2074, it has a drone elevator capable of launching heavy fire-support and transport drones, as well as a small-scale neural backup storage terminal preserving the Neural Clouds of the Doll crew. The storage terminal is not completely reliable and tends to delete memories, which is why the Dolls prefer not to rely on it. It is propelled by “vector engines" capable of reaching 210kph.

Arknights takes place in the dystopian world of
Terra. Terra may seem initially similar to our Earth, a modern world with a relatively similar level of technology – perhaps slightly more futuristic. However, its inhabitants, the "Ancients", sport animalistic traits. The world is constantly devastated by Catastrophes, ecological disasters of various sorts, forcing the world's inhabitants to adopt a nomadic life through nomadic cities. Along with the Catastrophes came Originium, a black crystalline mineral left behind in the aftermath of Catastrophes. Originium is widely used by the Terrans as a source of energy and engineering materials, and serves as the catalyst of magic-like powers known as Originium Arts. However, exposure to Originium leads to a "terminal disease" known as Oripathy, which has become a pandemic plaguing all of Terra. Oripathy is not easily transmissible, at least until the death and crystallization of its victims. Nevertheless, those stricken with Oripathy are known as Infected and suffer heavy oppression and marginalization across the entire world.

The game is told from the perspective of Rhodes Island, an international, non-governmental pharmaceutical corporation based in the eponymous nomadic landship, the mission of which is to aid the Infected. Rhodes Island hires many Infected and non-Infected Operators of various skills, trades, and origin; and effectively prove to be much more than a simple laboratory, boasting the paramilitary tactics and firepower of a small private military company. As they are best used to deal with the Infected, R.I. enters conflict with Reunion, a violent non-state actor consisting of radical Infected militants who intend to punish the Terrans for their plight. While Reunion is the game's initial antagonist, it has since expanded to other conflicts, including the succession conflict in Victoria, the rampant capitalism of Kazimierz, encroaching otherworldly threats such as the "gods" of Yan and the Seaborn of Aegir, and the never-ending civil wars in Kazdel, among others. The protagonist of Arknights is an enigmatic individual known only as the Doctor. The Doctor has lost their memory from a long stasis in the mysterious Sarcophagus beneath the nomadic city of Chernobog, Ursus. They are rescued in the game's opening act by Rhodes Island, needing their tactical genius to act as their commander.

Rhodes Island Landhsip

Rhodes Island is a large landship consisting of six decks capable of holding a large amount of crew within her hull, allowing to mobilize the personnel anywhere, at any time. In simple terms, it works similar to an aircraft carrier, while serving as a living space for Operators. Because Rhodes Island needs to constantly obtain enough sufficient data to systematically study Oripathy and its effects, the landship also needs to move from area to area. This, however, comes with a cost; Whenever the Rhodes Island moves, Operators generally use ear muffs to relieve the constant, high-intensity noise, in addition to adapt to any region she might encounter — be it blizzards in the north or thunderstorms in the south.

Rhodes Island herself is already a mechanical wonder, even compared to high-speed warships. Her size and weight are comparable to a large flagship, only surpassed by Blacksteel's Fort Barron. She has a capacity limit for 2,000 onboard Operators and personnel, and available beds for more than 1,000 patients. The living quarters and crew cabins are available in single, double, and quadruple options, while the exact allocation will be provided for newly-onboard Operators by the HR Department once they receive the approval, and they will be guided by the Logistics staff. In case an Operator doesn't like or isn't used to the bumpy nature of the landship, they can also submit an application to be relocated to any of R.I.'s fixed branch offices. In addition to helipads and farms, she also has a training ground which includes at least one shooting range for the Rhodes Island paramilitary force, and several incineration (or more likely, cremation) chambers to safely dispose of terminally ill Infected R.I. personnel.
