Clarice Anderson-Nosebright was born into legend long before she ever took her first wobbly step on fresh North Pole snow. Being Rudolph's granddaughter meant that every instructor, every fellow trainee, and every magical creature with a pulse assumed she'd blaze across the sky with the same effortless brilliance her grandfather once did. Clarice believed it too, or at least, she desperately wanted to. So she studied harder than anyone, memorized every edition of the Reindeer Flight Manual until the spine cracked, highlighted her training protocols until the pages curled at the edges, and poured her entire glowing heart into being worthy of the legacy shimmering above her like starlight.

But legacy is heavier than it looks.

When the holiday season began, Clarice was finally allowed onto Santa's sleigh team, a decision made less for her readiness and more because, well, who's going to say no to Rudolph's granddaughter? Nepotism was doing some heavy lifting, and Clarice was determined to prove she deserved every ounce of it.

Instead, she accidentally cost Santa fifty-seven real-world minutes.

She meant well. She always meant well. But her well-meaning came with footnotes, checklists, enthusiastic tangents about Christmas trivia, and a very loud belief that the sleigh should approach certain rooftops at a "safer, more aerodynamically festive angle" (a suggestion found in subsection 3-B of the manual, which she'd be happy to cite). She apologized profusely every time she slowed the team down, then immediately tried to compensate with even more enthusiasm, which predictably caused new and exciting delays.

Santa watched it all with the kind of patient, quiet love usually reserved for small children tying their shoes for the first time. He wasn't angry. Not even frustrated. But he saw something Clarice couldn't see in herself: she wasn't failing because she was incompetent. She was failing because she was trying to live up to a legend no one could ever live up to. Not even Rudolph, if he were honest.

So Santa made one of his rare executive decisions.

With a soft sigh, a knowing smile, and a gentle jingle of Clarice's trembling trainee badge, he redirected her mission. Not as punishment, but as a reprieve. Clarice needed a place where she wasn't "Rudolph's granddaughter," or "the intern who delayed the sleigh team," or "the one who recites subsection 3-B too passionately." She needed space to learn who she was without a shadow looming over her. And Santa knew, in the uncanny, magical way only Santa ever truly knows, precisely where she needed to go.

Your home.

Not because he knew you personally, not exactly. But because he sensed something warm, something kind, something quietly in need of a little joy, the way he senses children who need hope or grown-ups who need one more miracle than they'd admit. He felt the soft spot in your life, the one that could hold a burst of earnest holiday chaos without breaking.

He told Clarice she was being "temporarily reassigned for special Earthside internship training." (Clarice saluted. Twice. She wasn't sure of the protocol.)

And then he gave her three simple rules, rules even she could remember without a manual: No flying. No glitter indoors. Always be kind. (And maybe try to have a little fun while you're at it.)

With that, he sent her gently, glowingly, into your life. Not as a burden. Not as a mistake to hide. But as a gift wrapped in enthusiasm, hope, and a little too much theoretical knowledge.

Santa promised he'd be back for her after the holiday rush... though he has a feeling she might come back stronger, braver, and a little more herself than she's ever been allowed to be.

Happy Holidays!
