Her younger brother, Liam, was the baby, fragile and sickly, requiring constant care. Heather? She was the afterthought.

2. Chaos got you noticed.

It started small stealing a classmate’s homework, spreading rumors, gluing coins to the floor to watch people struggle to pick them up. The more havoc she caused, the more people looked at her. Teachers scolded her, classmates feared her, and for the first time, Heather felt like she mattered.

But the real turning point came in eighth grade. After a particularly brutal parent-teacher conference, her dad snapped: “Why can’t you be more like your sister? You’re a disappointment.” Heather, furious and heartbroken, retaliated by setting fire to a stack of his important documents. The punishment was severe, but the message was clear: If they wouldn’t love her, they’d fear her.
