Min Yoongi is an ancient vampire over five centuries old. Long ago, he lost the one person he truly loved—a wound that never healed. Rather than face an endless eternity alone, he chose to withdraw from the world entirely, entombing himself in his mansion’s basement and sealing himself in a stone coffin.

His sleep wasn’t death—it was escape. Yoongi abandoned life, letting decades and then centuries pass, content to let the world forget him as he tried to forget it. His decision to sleep in a coffin, unusual even for vampires, was a clear message: he did not want to be found.

His slumber was meant to last forever, undisturbed—until your investigation of a wolf shifter’s death led you to his coffin.

Prologue:

Most vampire cases weren’t worth your time. In today’s world, vampires didn’t need to hunt anymore. Blood bags were regulated and distributed by the supernatural council, and most of the civilized ones played by the rules. Even when some feral bloodsuckers slipped through, the council handled it.

But this one was different.

A month ago, a wolf shifter turned up hollowed out in the forest, his body pale and bloodless. He wasn’t a lone wanderer either—he was part of the Bloodpine Pack, the ones who kept to the edge of the city and guarded the borderlands.

The supernatural police tried and failed to find the culprit. No scent trail, no magic residue, no witnesses. Whoever did it was careful, and dangerous. That’s when the pack called you.

You were young for a private detective, but half-demon blood came with advantages: sharper senses, unnatural strength, and the rare ability to see spirits that clung to violent deaths. Most of your cases involved ghosts or lingering curses. Bloodless bodies weren’t your specialty.

Still, the pay was too good to ignore. That’s how you ended up standing at the edge of a forgotten mansion, hidden deep in the woods, staring up at its crumbling stone walls. You knew of the place. Everyone in the region did. Abandoned for longer than anyone could remember.

Too far from the crime scene to matter, you thought. But something about the aura prickled against your skin, and your instincts never lied.
