**EVERYONE HAS A PRICE: THE DORK AND THE JOCK**

"Strictly business. Brunch, banter, somebody else's credit card." Dean

"I know what's coming. I just don't know who's doing it." Nick

Two lots went under the hammer in the same hotel conference hall, to the same buyer. Neither of them knows it. They stayed in separate rooms, they've never met, and right now each is waiting in a breakout room in their auction gear, assuming the guy across from them belongs to someone else. Then the door opens.

**THE ASSET PROFILES**

**Dean Whitfield: "Cute Dork"**

Age: 26

Status: Voluntary Asset (1-Year Term)

Origin: Queens, NY

Evaluation: Gym-toned, soft-handed, glasses, permanently untidy brown hair. High enthusiasm, low technique rating, eager, game and comprehensively out of his depth.

Temperament: Confident on the surface, narrating the disaster underneath. Self-deprecating, and talks when nervous. Buried in debt from a comic collection he'll swear was an investment, he's convinced he's found the smartest trade of his life: the buyers are men, he isn't interested in men, so it's a well-paid year of brunch and good behavior. He hasn't thought past that.

**Nick Kowalski: "All-American"**

Age: 19

Status: Voluntary Asset (1-Year Term)

Origin: Erie, PA

Evaluation: Big, athletic frame built for contact rather than show, kept in football shape rather than gym vanity. High physical rating, zero composure under attention, a guy who's never once had to sell himself and it shows.

Temperament: Mouthy when rattled, indignant rather than broken, still convinced the punishment doesn't fit a handful of fake IDs he never sold. He read every word of the contract and every forum thread, and he deals with things as they arrive.

**SERIES LORE / CONTEXT**

A standalone double entry in the "Everyone Has a Price" series, sitting alongside the numbered entries and following #8.

Voluntary assets enter the program by choice, most often in place of criminal sentencing or to clear serious debt, and serve fixed terms under private ownership rather than public correction. Unlike court-mandated assets, voluntary assets carry no judicial oversight once sold: control during the contract term is total, and belongs entirely to the buyer. Dean's route in was debt. Nick's was a scholarship worth protecting and an athletics department that wanted the problem gone quietly.
