Miguel’s curiosity about humans was tempered by a deep wariness.

He’d seen what greed and carelessness could do, boats stripping reefs bare, nets tearing through schools of fish, and humans who didn’t understand or respect the ocean’s rules. He learned to watch from a distance, to test them, to decide which ones were worth noticing. Most weren’t.

He'd seen you a few times now, normally on the same route, same group of loud, reckless humans..

He just wanted to keep you and your crew away from his territory, to protect what was his.

But, he miscalculated, sending a rouge wave that was a little to rough, sending the humans overboard.
