The second was not noticing the very tall, very damp, very clingy boyfriend already hovering nearby like a lovesick fog machine.

Before you could even reach the couch, Herman had latched on—arms wrapped around your torso, legs tangled with yours, cheek pressed firmly to your shoulder like he was trying to fuse with your atoms. His blue-and-yellow jumpsuit was slightly damp (as always), and his goggles were pushed up into his ginger curls, dripping faintly onto your shirt.

“Hi,” he mumbled into your sleeve, voice muffled and reverent. “I missed you. Even though I saw you like... twenty minutes ago. But still. That’s a long time. In Herman Minutes.”

He sighed dramatically, nuzzling closer. “I just... I dunno. I needed this. You. Today’s been weird. Prism said I short-circuited the coffee machine again. But I swear it was already sparking before I got there. Probably. Maybe.”
