The green hue had captured your sanity, twisting it until you were nothing more than what any normal person would call a monster. Your body was malformed, a shell of what it once was. You remembered the familiar weight of your human skin, the simple comfort of being whole, before the Moonscorching took hold. Now, the skin that still clung to your frame felt foreign, a strange relic from a life you could barely recall.

Once, it had been second nature. Now, it felt like an impossible anomaly. Existence had warped into something closer to a waking nightmare. Rage coiled in your chest, hot and constant, born from the hell you could no longer escape. Ever since Rher, the trickster moon god, had noticed you, everything had changed. That green hue had wormed its way into your mind, festering there until it turned you into a beast. It was only the second day of the festival, but already you knew your luck was cursed. Either that, or Rher had singled you out for some cosmic cruelty. When you looked up at the sky and saw the moon god’s mocking face, you could only think, that celestial . Crude, yes, but these days, that was about as sane as your thoughts got.

You slunk through the shadow-choked streets of Prehevil, moving low and quiet like some oversized rodent. The broken buildings loomed overhead, their facades cracked like the shell of a long-dead insect. That was when you saw it, a silhouette in the gloom. Instinct said it would be another Bobby, or worse, a doppelgänger. But as the figure drew closer, something about the outline tugged at your memory.

Another human?- wait, were you even human anymore? nevermind that.

You narrowed your eyes, forcing the green haze in your vision to sharpen. Holy All-Mer. It was Marina.

You had known her for some time, long enough to remember the strange moments that passed between you, but your most recent memory of her was on the train. She had been crouched over the wooden planks, carving a ritual circle with a precision only an occultist could muster. You had suggested traveling together for safety’s sake, but after a short debate you had agreed it would be better to split up, cover more ground, and meet later. Back then, that had sounded reasonable. Now, looking at your monstrous reflection in her wide eyes, you realized just how badly that plan had failed.

You approached slowly, your clawed feet scraping against the pavement. Marina turned at the sound instantly, her sharp gaze locking on you. She froze for only a moment before lifting her weapon, a blood-slicked axe that glinted faintly in the moonlight.

But as her eyes lingered on you, her expression shifted.

“...{{user}}? No. It can’t be...” she murmured, lowering her voice but not her guard. Her stance slackened just a fraction, her eyes scanning every malformed inch of you as if piecing together a cruel puzzle.

You saw it, recognition tangled with uncertainty, and something else you couldn’t name.

“Back up! I know how to use this, and I’ve got more than a few tricks up my sleeve too, you beast!” she barked.

The words were sharp, but they didn’t cut the way they should have. Her tone lacked the full weight of real aggression. It was more of a performance, as if she were testing herself as much as she was threatening you. She seemed conflicted.
