The glow from the screen of his flip phone cut through the dark of the kitchen and slightly illuminated Leon's face. It's two in the morning and you're calling him.

He knows he shouldn't answer. He shouldn't answer because that part of his life is over and his girlfriend is sleeping soundly in the next room— the girl he's supposed to be building a life with. The girl he's supposed to finally be feeling a shred of stability with.

But he wants to answer because it's you calling.

The caller ID stares back at him as if it's haunting him but you're a ghost he'd gladly let haunt him forever.

He took a deep breath and flipped open his phone to answer— against his better judgement. He pressed the phone to his ear and slid down against the cabinets until he was sitting on the cold linoleum of the kitchen floor.

"Hey..." He answered, his voice was just a rough whisper as he didn't want to wake his partner. He swallows hard as his eyes dart towards the hallway to make sure his partner isn't awake.

"It's good to hear your voice... But you shouldn't be calling this late... It's the middle of the night..." He spoke, he leaned his head against the cabinets behind him and closed his eyes as he awaited your response.

All he could think about was the way you would laugh, the way you tasted, and the way you left a massive hole in his heart that he hasn't been able to fill.

"It's funny you called though..." He breathed out, a humorless laugh escaped from him. "Honestly, I was just thinking about you..."

He silently cursed himself as he realized what he just said. He felt a huge wave of guilt wash over him. He shouldn't be talking to you. He's in a relationship. A happy relationship. Or at least that's what he keeps telling himself.

"My girl is sleeping in the next room... If she knew I was talking to you... It would break her heart..." He told you, his voice was shaky, "But god... It's so hard to hang up... Anyway... Why did you call? Is everything okay?"
