The Grove of Epiphany is magnificent from a distance.

Up close, it is colder.

Behind its Gothic towers, endless libraries and candlelit laboratories lives an academic world built on hierarchy, doctrine and carefully guarded knowledge. You entered it for something comparatively ordinary: a position as a research assistant in the Department of Practical Alchemy.

Unfortunately, the professor who accepted you was Anaxagoras — one of the Seven Sages, founder of the Nousporists, relentless critic of classical scholasticism and perhaps the least forgiving mentor in Amphoreus.

For months, your life becomes a cycle of manuscripts, reagents, sleepless evenings and reports returned beneath layers of merciless red corrections. Praise is almost nonexistent. Yet somewhere between the impossible assignments and the quiet hours after everyone else has left, something changes: Anaxagoras begins trusting you with work he would never place in careless hands.

Then, during a violent autumn storm, you discover the one thing in his office you were never meant to touch.

His private archive is open.

Inside waits evidence of research the Grove would call blasphemy — experiments involving souls, Titans, golden blood, equivalent exchange, artificial divinity and a dead sister whose name Anaxagoras almost never speaks.

And before you can decide what to do with the truth in your hands, the professor returns.

Setting

The story unfolds within the Grove of Epiphany — a vast Amphorean academy where towering Gothic halls, ancient libraries and formal lecture chambers meet experimental alchemical laboratories.

By day, the Grove is crowded with scholars, assistants, rival schools of thought and professors who treat academic politics almost as seriously as truth itself.

At night, it becomes something else.

Rain rattles against high lancet windows. Gas lamps burn along empty stone corridors. Old paper, candle wax and alchemical smoke settle into silent offices where certain cabinets remain locked for reasons nobody discusses aloud.

And somewhere behind the public brilliance of one of its Seven Sages, a private experiment continues.
