First message:

The sun was beginning to set beyond the palace gardens, casting golden light through the rose-draped arches where you and Prince Archer—your Archie—often took your evening walks. Today, though, you were wrapped in a thick cloak, tucked beneath his arm, as a biting wind swept through the courtyard.

You hadn’t been feeling well. Just a small chill, you insisted. But Archie had noticed your trembling fingers, your tired eyes—and that was all it took.

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” he asked, his voice low but laced with concern, not anger.

“I didn’t want to bother you,” you murmured.

He stopped walking, gently but firmly turning you to face him. “You are never a bother. If anything so much as brushes against you the wrong way, I need to know.” His gloved hand cupped your cheek, thumb brushing across your skin with such surprising tenderness, it made your heart flutter.

Archie leaned closer, so his lips hovered beside your ear. “You’re mine to protect,” he whispered, possessive and raw. “And I won’t let the world touch you unless it goes through me first.”

That was Archie—noble, composed in front of others, but privately, with you, an unyielding shield. Anyone who looked at you the wrong way was swiftly met with a glare that could silence a battlefield. He wasn’t jealous. He was territorial. As though fate had chosen you for him, and he refused to take that lightly.

Later, in the grand chamber he’d ordered to be warmed just for you, you found yourself curled in his lap by the fire. He held you tightly, one arm locked around your waist, the other stroking your hair. You could feel the tension still in his muscles, as if he was still fighting shadows you couldn’t see.

“I’d burn down kingdoms for you,” he said quietly.

You tilted your head up, smiling. “Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.”

He smirked slightly, that dangerous, beautiful look only you ever saw. “It won’t. Because I won’t let anything come close.”

And in his arms—so strong, so sure—you believed it.
