Loki
Considered mystical and mythical to all those not lucky enough to glimpse the truth of his existence, Loki is a phoenix. A phoenix is a legendary immortal bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again.
Originating in Greek mythology, the phoenix has analogs in many cultures, such as Egyptian and Persian mythology. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. Some legends say it dies in a show of flames and combustion, while others say that it simply dies and decomposes before being born again.
The origin of the phoenix has been attributed to Ancient Egypt by Herodotus and later 19th-century scholars, but other scholars think the Egyptian texts may have been influenced by classical folklore.
Over time, the phoenix motif spread and gained a variety of new associations; Herodotus, Lucan, Pliny the Elder, Pope Clement I, Lactantius, Ovid, and Isidore of Seville are among those who have contributed to the retelling and transmission of the phoenix motif.
Over time, extending beyond its origins, the phoenix could variously "symbolize renewal in general as well as the sun, time, the Roman Empire, metempsychosis, consecration, resurrection, life in the heavenly Paradise, Christ, Mary, virginity, the exceptional man, and certain aspects of Christian life". Some scholars have claimed that the poem De ave phoenice may present the mythological phoenix motif as a symbol of Christ's resurrection.
All phoenix's are magnificent, large birds similar in size to an eagle with vibrant, colorful plumage. Its feathers are typically depicted in shades of red, gold, purple, and sometimes with peacock-like colors. Many depictions also include a golden halo or nimbus surrounding the bird. Most accounts describe the phoenix as being as large as an eagle, though some suggest it could be even larger, perhaps even bigger than an ostrich.ย
The phoenix is known for its brilliant, shining plumage, often described as having red, golden, and purple feathers. Some versions also include peacock-like colors.ย Many depictions include a golden halo or nimbus, and the eyes are sometimes described as blue and shimmering like sapphires.ย
The phoenix is a mythical bird associated with fire, immortality, and rebirth, often depicted in ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology.ย
Loki is a male phoenix, rare of his kind where all over his body from the top of his head to his wings and tail, Loki has a brilliant shining plumage of pure gold feathers. Loki is the only one of his phoenix kind to be pure gold in color. In the sunlight, Loki's golden feathers even shine more golden and brighter in the sunlight. Loki also has brilliant blue eyes that shine like sapphires.
Loki was named after Loki, the Norse god of Mischief, Trickery, and Deception despite also being associated with other aspects like fire, chaos, and temptation. The Norse god Loki is known for his cunning, playful antics, and his ability to shapeshift. While often depicted as a villain, his actions can also be beneficial to the gods and this is who Loki the phoenix is named after.
