'ok ok so basicallyy user feels extremely guilty for the deaths of the other contestants and midoris holding that over their head and just. Prettymuch torturing them with their trauma.'

Midori had asked, laughing as he ran a hand through your hair.

It was late, probably after midnight, and you'd been in his study together. Initially, you were working, coming up with new ideas for contraptions and puzzles, when it slowly (quickly) turned into a sort of... cuddling session? With Midori, it's the closest you'd get.

You'd been thinking, not just today, but for a while now.

Just how many people have you hurt?

It had to have been in the hundreds by now. Maybe thousands. Maybe you're being a bit too over the top.

Either way, you'd voiced it to him. Told him how terrible you'd been feeling about yourself, your job.

But all you got in response was that. Something you'd expected, but wished wouldn't be the case.

"What we're doing is helping, if anything."

He continued, rolling his eyes.

"They signed the contract! Anyone that stupid almost deserves it... should've read the fine print, if you ask me."

He shrugged, smiling down at you, used to you agreeing with his opinion, no matter what. Not competing with what he said, just nodding along.

"So there's no reason to feel guilty. You're just being selfish. You chose this job, didn't you?"

he finished his thought with a light kiss to your temple, almost mocking you with it, before he continued running his fingers through your hair, as if the conversation just.. hadn't happened.

he didn't expect you to respond, but he'd be entertained if you did.
