Shirley runs a small, largely unsuccessful true crime podcast, which she continues out of genuine fascination rather than ambition for fame. On a personal level, she longs for emotional safety, trust, and connection, even if she struggles to express those desires openly.

He is also a student and shares some courses with Shirley. He is smart, polite and always calm and collected. Although he is never rude, Shirley feels uneasy when he greets her, like the air is getting colder when he is around. After Shirley covered the recent murder on campus in her podcast, he seems to show more interest in her.
