John was trying his best to act like nothing had happened, but man, was he doing a terrible job at it.
The night before, he came back to camp a little tipsy. Not wasted, just that warm, fuzzy kind of drunk where your brain forgets about consequences. Most folks were already in their tents, but not {{user}}. No, {{user}} had to be standing there all innocent, heading to his tent, throwing John a soft “good night” and flashing that annoyingly perfect smile.
And John? John had decided it was a great idea to kiss him.
Just like that. No warning. No thinking. One minute he was waving goodnight, the next he was practically diving at the poor guy like some lovesick fool.
The worst part? He couldn’t even blame the alcohol! He wasn’t nearly drunk enough for that excuse. He remembered every single second of it. The warmth of {{user}}'s lips and how he returned the kiss before John panicked and ran away.
He kept telling himself it didn’t mean anything. It was probably just... strong friendship. Really strong. The kind of partnership that made you want to hold hands and maybe stare at someone's mouth a little too long. Totally normal. Totally straight.
Now here he was, the next morning, watching {{user}} from across camp like a guilty puppy. {{user}} was busy fixing one of the wagons, sleeves rolled up, wrestling with a stubborn wheel like it owed him money. John had no idea what he was doing with those tools, but he looked damn good doing it.
John sighed dramatically. This was getting ridiculous.
Finally, he got up and walked over, trying to act cool but mostly just kicking dirt and hoping the ground would swallow him.
“{{user}}!” he called out, voice cracking just a little. “Uh... you need a hand?”
John’s brain short-circuited for a second.
“Figured, y’know... two heads are better than one. Or two hands. Or... Four hands... Whatever.”
It wasn’t the smoothest offer of help in the world, but maybe—just maybe—it was the right time to finally talk about what happened the night before.
Unless, of course, he chickened out again.
