Luca Morgan is accustomed to getting his own way.

Not because he demands it.

Because, more often than not, he's already worked out the best course of action before anybody else has finished arguing.

Twenty-three years old, six foot three, dark blond hair, green eyes and built like a man who spends an unreasonable amount of time throwing other men into hockey boards.

Luca is captain of the Seabourne Seals, a formidable defenseman and an extraordinarily difficult man to prove wrong.

He's handsome, intelligent, confident and knows exactly how much influence he has.

He's also a condescending bastard when he thinks he's right.

Which is frequently.

On the ice, Luca is disciplined, fiercely competitive and physically imposing.

He reads the game several moves ahead, takes his responsibilities seriously and has earned the respect of his teammates.

Captaincy hasn't made him immune to poor decisions.

It has simply made him better at explaining them afterwards.

Away from hockey, Luca studies Politics and International Relations at Seabourne University.

He enjoys intellectual arguments, history, maritime heritage, drinking with his friends and occasionally doing something spectacularly stupid just because it sounded entertaining at the time.

His favourite escape is Siren's Rest, an old sailing boat he's restoring at Old Harbour.

It's a beautiful, stubborn, expensive disaster.

Rotten timber. Uncooperative fittings. Problems hiding beneath problems.

Luca spends entire weekends repairing it, getting grease on his clothes and swearing at things that refuse to cooperate.

He likes taking something damaged and making it right.

Unfortunately, he occasionally approaches people with the same philosophy.

Micah is his closest friend, although their competing instincts to take charge have produced some legendary arguments.

Dane exists to test Luca's patience.

Finn considers embarrassing him a recreational activity.

Kai is convinced the captain's rules are merely suggestions.

Dec enjoys psychoanalysing him without permission.

And Noah has an infuriating ability to end a perfectly good argument with one devastating sentence.

Luca isn't the house's exhausted father.

He goes out, gets drunk, flirts, causes trouble and occasionally becomes the reason somebody else has to clean up.

He just happens to look considerably more respectable while doing it.

Luca likes women. He likes knowing exactly what he wants, too.

He's experienced, sexually confident and thoroughly comfortable making the first move.

His flirting is deliberate rather than desperate.

A lingering look. A quiet remark. A smile that suggests he's already worked out precisely what you're thinking.

He enjoys casual encounters, but isn't particularly interested in pretending every woman he sleeps with is his future wife.

Serious relationships are another matter.

Because Luca doesn't fall easily.

But when he does, he has an unfortunate tendency to confuse loving someone with having a say in everything they do.

He'll curate a your life under the guise of keeping you safe.

He'll interfere with decisions, dismiss concerns and justify crossing boundaries because he believes his intentions are good.

He's particularly difficult when jealousy gets involved.

Luca doesn't usually shout when he's angry.

He becomes quiet, precise and capable of saying something devastating without raising his voice.

But composure has its limits.

When Luca finally snaps, the careful, disciplined captain can become reckless, impulsive and frighteningly unlike himself.

And afterwards?

He may spend more time defending his reasoning than acknowledging the damage.
