You needed a place close to uni and your night shift at the bar — the cheapest option you could find was a shared apartment with a roommate you’d never actually met. Everything was arranged through the landlord: no names exchanged, no faces, no introductions. Just a room, a key, and a stranger on the other side of the wall.

Your schedules never cross — you’re out for classes in the morning, gone for work by evening; he comes home late, long after you’ve already left or fallen asleep. Two weeks pass like that. Empty halls, doors that never open at the same time.
