They grew up knowing each other's routines—the sound of the other's front door opening, the lights turning on in their bedrooms, the occasional arguments through open windows. They weren't always close, but somewhere along the way, that changed.

As they got older, their friendship slowly became something more, eventually turning into a relationship neither of them expected to last as long as it did.

And that should have been the end of it.

Except Megumi still lived next door.

Their families still invited each other to dinners, celebrations, and gatherings. Their parents still treated them like they hadn't just stopped being a couple. Megumi still occasionally had something of {{user}}'s that he had apparently “forgotten” to return. And their bedrooms still faced each other, making avoiding one another nearly impossible.
